Inspiration from a Nangchen Nun

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

orgyenchodren4Orgyen Chodren, now 36, became a nun at the age of 12. She says, “When I leave the Gonpa, I have no taste for what is happening outside, and I want to go back to the Gonpa immediately.” In response to being asked what is the most important thing in all of the Dharma, she responded: “Recognizing the nature of mind is the most important thing. Just like a river running continually under a bridge, the nature of mind underlies all phenomena.”

A note from Rinpoche about the safety of the Nangchen Nuns

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

The Tsoknyi Nangchen Nuns in China and their gonpas were not adversely affected in any way by earthquakes or political unrest that occurred in 2008. No one knows the long-term economic impact on the Nuns that these and future unexpected events may have. Rinpoche will keep us advised as matters unfold.

a documentary about the Tsoknyi Nangchen Nuns

In the summer of 2005, Tsoknyi Rinpoche III, accompanied by a handful of western students, traveled to the Nangchen region in Eastern Tibet. The purpose of the trip was to document the lives and assess the needs of the Tsoknyi Nangchen Nuns—over 2,000 remarkable women who live and practice an ancient yogic tradition in nunneries and hermitages scattered across this remote, mountainous region.

In 2006, the Tsoknyi Nangchen Nuns Preservation Project released Journey to Nangchen, a 28-minute video record of this extraordinary journey. (more…)
